24 Weeks Pregnant

The one word that sums up this week has to be HEARTBURN! Having never had heartburn before it was quite a shock and I wasn't expecting it at all. I ended up marching down to the doctors as the heartburn was that bad it made me sick! And needless to say I didn't want to experience that after every meal again *horrible first trimester flashbacks*

Baby girl is getting stronger by the day and so are her kicks :D I have actually managed to record some of her kicks this week and I could sit and watch my belly wiggle all day.

A little more progress came on the nursery this week... we have picked out a cute and girly colour theme with matching wallpaper and ordered our nursery furniture!! All very exciting and things are starting to come together ( if slower than I want) I know we still have plenty of time but the weeks are flying by!

Touching on my last post about old wives tales... did you suffer from bad heartburn and have a baby with a full head of hair?

Just For Fun - Old Wives Tales

I already know that i'm expecting a girl but I just wanted to do a little recap of some of the old wives tales on gender to see how many say girl and how many say boy :D

Old Wives Tale #1: Heart Rate
If the baby’s heart rate is above 140 bpm, it is said that the baby will be a girl. If it is under 140 bpm, then it will be a boy.

We never got told the heart rate :( Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #2: Shape of Belly
If you are carrying high with a big, round belly, you are having a girl. If you are carrying low with a smaller belly that sticks straight out, it’s a boy.

I feel like i'm carrying high with a big belly all spread out! Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #3: Ring Test
Using a string, hang your wedding ring over your pregnant belly. You are having a girl if the ring swings back and forth and it’s a boy if it swings in a circle.

Not yet married, hmmmm! Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #4: Acne
If you have acne while pregnant, it’s a girl. It’s thought that acne during pregnancy is caused by the extra hormones.

My skin is terrible! Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #5: Cravings
People believe that if you are craving salty foods while pregnant, you can count on having a boy. If you crave sweets, fruit, and orange juice, you are having a little girl.

Craved a lot of orange juice in the first trimester and now can't get enough sweets :o/ Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #6: Skin under Left Eye
The eye test is when a “V” or “branches” appear when you pull down the skin under your left eye. If you see a “V” or “branches” in the white part, you’re having a girl.

I have no idea!! Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #7: Time of Conception
The person that is most aggressive in bed at the time of conception is the opposite of what the baby will be. Maybe I should of made a quick note... next time! Hehe! Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #8: Legs
If your legs get really big, you’re having a boy. If your legs stay in shape and lean, it’s a girl.

My legs feel huge, especially my thighs. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #9: Moodiness and a Little Pecker
If you are really moody, you are having a girl since you have another extra girl hormones in you. Your pregnancy will make you smile and be more happy if you are having a boy because there’s a little penis inside you.

Mark tells me i'm moody, I disagree lol! Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #10: Chinese Gender Chart
The Chinese Gender Chart claims to have an accuracy rate of over 90%. It is based on how old the mother is at conception and the month that she conceived. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #11: Mom’s Beauty
Basically you are having a girl if your beauty disappears during pregnancy. It is said that the girl “steals” the mother’s beauty. If you think that pregnancy has never made you look more beautiful, a little boy it is. I look awful! Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #12: Dream of Sex of Baby
If you have dreams that you are having a boy, you will have a girl. If you dream about having a girl, it will be a boy. Dreams show the opposite of what you are having.

Since finding out i've always had dreams about a boy. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #13: Clumsy vs. Graceful
If the pregnant woman is graceful throughout her pregnancy, she’s having a girl. If she becomes clumsy, she’s having a boy.

I'm very clumsy! Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #14: Side You Most Rest On
If a pregnant woman prefers to lay on her left side, she’s having a boy. If she prefers resting on her right side, she’s having a girl. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #15: Dad’s Weight Gain
If the dad-to-be gains weight while you are pregnant, it’s a girl. If he doesn’t gain weight, you’re having a boy.

He actually lost weight! Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #16: Breast Test
If a pregnant woman’s left breast is larger than the right breast, she’s having a girl. If the right breast is larger, it’s a boy.  Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #17: What Do You Think?
71% of the time, the mom-to-be knows what she is having.

I thought she was a girl and Mark thought girl as soon as I took the test! Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #18: Morning Sickness
If you had a smooth pregnancy with no morning sickness, it’s a boy. If you were sick or felt really nauseous during your pregnancy, count on a girl.

A lot of sickness here :( Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #19: Areolae
If your areolae (the part around your nips) have darkened, it’s a boy. If they haven't, its a girl. Prediction outcome: BOY

Old Wives Tale #20: Protein
When a pregnant woman craves meat and cheese, count on a boy.

I did crave cheese but went off meat. Prediction outcome: INCONCLUSIVE

Old Wives Tale #21: Feet
Are your feet colder now that you are pregnant? If so, you just might be having a boy. If your feet have stayed the same before pregnancy and during, you’re having a little girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #22: Headaches
If you are having headaches, you might be carrying a boy.

First trimester didn't have headaches but now I do. Going to go with the first trimester as I didn't know the sex then. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #23: Baby Names
It is said that when you can only think of specific names for a boy or a girl, you will have that particularly baby.

Me and Mark could not agree on a boy name at all. Prediction outcome: GIRL

Old Wives Tale #24: Urine
What color is your pee? If it is bright yellow, you will have a little boy. If your urine is a dull yellow, plan on a girl. Prediction outcome: GIRL

So the old wives tales say GIRL :D

A fun little experiment! How did you do?

23 Weeks Pregnant

This week has defiantly made me feel very pregnant and HUGE! I haven't worn my jeans for a couple of weeks so when I went to wear them this week I find out that they didn't fit me anymore. I have been wearing them unbuttoned with a belly band over the top as to hide the fact they were undone but now its seems my hips are too big and I struggle to pull them up. This means that I have to find some good maternity jeans asap! I looked for some around 18/19 weeks but they were all still a little big so i'm hoping now I will fill them out more. I struggled to find clothes to fit me before I was pregnant so i'm hoping things might be easier now you can clearly tell.  I will let you know how I get on.

It is a very strange feeling to not have my normal clothes fit me anymore and I know it's because i'm growing a baby and that weight gain is expected but I still can't help feeling like a whale! I want whats best for my baby and I will put on as much weight as I need too but it is hard to deal with... how did you cope?

On a happier note i'm still feeling the baby move all the time and if you push my belly she actually kicks back, it's a little game we like to play. I love it :D She is still super shy around Mark but he feels her more each week.

Other than that i'm having some terrible headaches so trying to keep on top of my water intake and rest as much as possible.

22 Weeks Pregnant

Not much has happened this week. So far my little idea to give myself projects has gone out of the window... must get back on track! We have continued to sort the nursery out which is good but we still have so much to do. It's scary how fast each week is passing. I feel like were running out of time!

We did buy some baby things this week! Which included a bright pink baby bath which me and Mark both love! And as you can see from the picture Millie likes it too :D

Baby girl won't stop moving about and kicking. Mark has felt some pretty big kicks now and I can defiantly tell that she is getting stronger. Not looking forward to the stage where the kicks hurt but it's all part of the experience i guess :D

21 Weeks Pregnant

Over half way and I can't believe how fast it has gone!! A lot of people tell me that from now on it will drag but i'm trying to give myself little projects each week and month. I'll let you know how I do!

Mark finally got to feel the baby move although she does seem a little shy around him. She'll be moving and kicking loads and as soon as I tell Mark she stops. I find it so funny but he doesn't. He has managed to feel her kick a few times now and she is certainly getting bigger and stronger! Not looking forward to her hurting me when she kicks my ribs and things but for now i'm enjoying sweet little kicks :D

This week I have felt my nausea come back a little bit which is scary. I am not ready to start throwing up again. Please pray for me! LOL! I find it's just when I get too hungry so eating normally sorts it out.

This week we have also started to sort the nursery out. It needs painting and cleaning out. So this week we managed to sort a few bags of rubbish out and take down the wardrobe which was in there.

20 Weeks Scan

For my 20 week scan I was actually 19 weeks 4 days but we will forget about that as it doesn't really matter.

For this scan I was determined to not have such a full bladder so I could enjoy it more than my 12 week scan. I did well but still really needed to empty my bladder as soon as we got to the hospital, I let myself go to the toilet and then drank loads while we were waiting to have the scan and this seemed to work.

The scan lasted around 20-30 minutes and during that time we got to see everything. Her head, eyes, nose and lips (which totally looked like mine!) Her arms, legs, stomach, kidneys, spine and heart. The scan was in so much detail we could see each of the four chambers of her heart! It was amazing! We also found out the gender as she gave us a nice clear shot of between her legs. Mark said as soon as we found out we were expecting that she was a girl. He was so confident he actually bought a dress when I was 7  weeks!! She was moving and wriggling around a lot and the lady said that she was a right poser as she had both her hands up near her face.

19 Weeks 4 Days
We also saw her cord and the placenta. I have an anterior placenta which the lady said wasn't a problem and not to worry. It could mean I didn't feel as much movement but so far so good. She measured exactly where she should be and all was perfect!

I cried the whole way through the scan as it was so emotional to actually see all her features and that she looked like a real baby!

I really hope that we can pay for 3D/4D scan but they are quite expensive so i'm not sure we will be getting one yet but I would love to have one around 30/32 weeks! With even more detail i'd probably be an emotional wreck so maybe it's not a good idea, lol!

Have you had a 3D/4D scan? Was it worth it?

15-20 Weeks Pregnant

This post again will be a little recap and then I will start doing weekly posts as each week of pregnancy passes!

During weeks 15-20 I felt great!! My morning sickness near enough gone, I was starting to look pregnant and everyone knew :D I did still feel a little tired and had a stuffy nose but all in all I didn't care.

At 16 weeks I felt the baby move for the first time! It felt like little bubbles popping inside my belly. At first I wasn't sure what it was, as I had never experienced it before but as it happened more and more I knew it had to be the baby.

At 17 and 18 weeks I felt even more movement and my belly button started to pop. I felt like I wanted to eat everything in sight and probably did!!

19 weeks was very special as this is when we had our second scan and found out we were expecting a little girl! But more about this in a separate post as I want to go into detail as it was such an amazing and emotional experience. I also felt the baby kick for the time. Mark was very excited as the baby would soon be big enough for him to feel from the outside :D I also took the plunge and got some maternity tops as mine were getting too small.

Week 20 was such a busy week as it included Christmas. I was now feeling the baby move daily but still had to be still and concentrate as she was still small. Mark also got to see my belly move as she kicked me. It was such little movement that he blinked the first time it happened and missed the whole thing, lol!

Do you remember the first time you felt your baby kick?

12 Week Scan

So we had our 12 week scan on October 31st. It lasted around 10 minutes and was the most magical thing ever!!

Before we went in I was so nervous and scared. Plus having a full to burst bladder didn't help! The ultrasound lady said the baby had a very strong heartbeat, which we could see on the screen. And told us we were due May 12th 2012!

12 Weeks 2 days
It was so unreal to see the baby moving on screen and know that it was in my belly. All the morning sickness was so worth it to know we had a healthy little baby growing away inside my belly.

It was such a special moment and i'm so glad that I got to share it with Mark.

After the scan we told the rest of our family and friends and showed the picture to anyone who would look :D

How was your 12 week scan?

4-14 Weeks Pregnant!! First Trimester

This post is just a little look back on my first trimester. I'm not going to hide anything on this blog so here is the truth... my first trimester wasn't very nice! I had bad morning sickness, throwing up multiple times a day (one day was 10+ times), I couldn't keep food or water down and ended up in hospital for tests. Everything was fine with the tests and I was told to just eat when I could and drink plenty as I was dehydrated.

So from 6-14 weeks I was stuck in the bathroom with my head down the toilet (attractive i know) and I lived off jacket potatoes. So much so that when it was time for my 12 week scan (more about that later) me and Mark joked the baby would look like a jacket potato and started calling the baby Spud!! I was a mess, looked awful and did nothing but throw up, try to eat and sleep.

Mark was amazing!! He stepped up, looked after me and Millie and took care of the house.

Although it wasn't a very nice 8 weeks I would do it all over in a heartbeat!!

Any questions please leave a comment! And I would love to hear about your first trimesters if your pregnant :D
