Hospital Visit

So in my 37 weeks pregnant post I mentioned that the midwife was concerned that I hadn't felt baby girl move as much as normal on the day of my appointment. She advised me to go home, have something to eat, something to drink and lay down on my left side and see if this got baby girl moving. So I went home and did as I was told, waited an hour or so and still hadn't felt anything. I called Mark at work and filled him in and he decided to come home as he was worried. After I got off the phone to Mark I phoned the hospital and they said that I should go down to be monitored. They made me an appointment for a little later that afternoon.

The time finally came and we made our way to the hospital, still hadn't felt baby girl move at this point. We got sent on a wild goose chase around the hospital and then eventually we got to the right place... an hour and a half after we arrived at the hospital!! This really didn't help and just made both me and Mark very annoyed. I was put on the monitor and sure enough as soon as it touched my belly baby girl decided to have a right little wiggle and kick it off. It was such a relief to finally feel her move. I was on the monitor for just over an hour. We could hear baby girls heartbeat the whole time and also see when my uterus was tightening, I could feel it happening but I think Mark found it quite interesting to see.

After the time was up the printout was checked over and everything looked perfectly fine :D This was such a big relief.

I am now keeping an eye on her movements and was told that I must go back to the hospital if I notice a decrease in movement again. Hopefully she will be a good girl from now on and keep on wiggling around!

We were so scared... Did you ever have a similar experience?

37 Weeks Pregnant

We have made it to full term :D It is so nice to know that baby girl could be born at anytime and if she did decide to come she would be perfectly healthy and able to cope on her own.

This week I've had A LOT of pains and even more braxton hicks. They start to get very regular and quite strong and then calm down after a couple of hours. They wake me up in the middle of the night and early morning. I know it's just my body getting ready for the big day but it is starting to get quite tiring so I am napping whenever I can just in case baby girl decides to make an appearance.

My heart burn has faded away a little but I have noticed that it tends to come in waves so I will expect it back in the next week or so.

My midwife appointment went well. I am measuring slightly behind but my midwife said this is because baby girl is so low into pelvis. She is almost fully engaged! Everything else is perfect. She was a little concerned that I hadn't felt baby girl move as much as normal and told me to go home, have a snack, a cold drink and see if that gets her moving. Needless to say it didn't so we had to go to the hospital and get checked out. More about this in my next post!

We finally ordered the pram and a baby swing. These should be coming in the next week and I must say I am very excited :D Also next week I have another midwife appointment.

Feeling very ready to meet baby girl. How did you feel at 37 weeks pregnant?

Pregnancy Cravings

Time for a little random post about cravings :D

When I first found out I was pregnant I expected to have very strange cravings. On TV you always see the pregnant lady eating pickles and ice cream or something strange along them lines. Throughout this pregnancy I haven't craved anything strange and to be honest i'm a little disappointed! I thought it was my right as a pregnant women to crave strange and random thing, hehe!

Here is a list of all the boring things I have craved...

1st trimester
*Oranges

2nd trimester
*Cheese
*Prawn Cocktail Crisps

3rd trimester
*Skips
*Cakes/buns

All throughout my pregnancy I have loved apples and sweets! I've also not craved anything that I previously didn't like but have gone off things that I used to eat and I can't stand to be around raw meat!

I'd love to hear about your strange cravings!!

36 Weeks Pregnant

Four little weeks to go!! Getting so much more excited as the days go by. Time is still flying!!

My main symptom this week has been braxton hicks. I have had them for a while now but I have noticed that over this week that they have being a lot more regular and much more frequent. I'm hoping that this is a good sign that things are progressing. Another symptom is my horrible heartburn, yet again it comes back to haunt me. I must say that I will not miss that when I finally have baby girl. I am hoping it will go away and never come back... unless we have another baby then of course I wouldn't mind lol. I have also noticed a few more stretch marks this week as well, nothing major and there isn't a lot I can do about them now.

My bump feels so much lower and heavier. My back and hips hurt. I must say these last stages of pregnancy aren't very fun but defiantly worth it! Anyone else feel the same?

Exciting things that have happened this week... our cot bed came and I have started to wash all baby girls clothes and blankets :D It's so cute to see her little outfits hanging up to dry. I love it! And can't wait to dress her in them!

I have another midwife appointment to look forward to next week and we are also ordering the pushchair next week too :D I think that when the pushchair finally comes it will feel a lot more real. I feel like having a pushchair is a big deal and I can't wait to have a play with it and take baby girl out in it for the first time!!

Birthing Partner

Who did you have are your birthing partner? If you could would you change that person?

I will be having Mark. I trust him 100% and I know he will do a fantastic job. I would love to have my mum there for support as I know that it would be useful to have someone who has gone through the experience of childbirth and come out the other side but as she lives over 2 hours away this isn't practical.

I am very much looking forward to having Mark support me and I think it will be an amazing and special experience for us both. I do think labour and birth is something quite personal so i'm glad in a way that it will just be us two and we will welcome baby girl into this world as a family unit.

The thing i'm not looking forward too is if he just stands there like a goon and has no idea what to do or how to help. We have gone over the birth plan and everything we want to happen in an ideal world but I am still thinking about getting him to do a little research into how to be the best birthing partner.

So... any tips for dads to be in the delivery room?

Birth Plan

So last week at my midwife appointment we wrote my birth plan. After the antenatal class and hospital tour I felt very confident in knowing what I did and didn't want. Mark was unable to come to the appointment but we discussed before hand what we both wanted. I felt that it was important for us to have this discussion as I wanted him to feel involved.

So here is a little run down of my birth plan and my wishes for labour.

* I will be giving birth at my local birthing centre, which is joined to the hospital in case of an emergency.
*Mark will be my birthing partner.
*I am hoping for a water birth.
* I plan to get into the pool at around 6cm and until then will be as active as I can be walking around and using the birthing ball.
*I hope to manage on gas and air as pain relief.
*Mark will be cutting the cord.
*Me and baby girl will have skin to skin contact straight after she is born.
* I plan to breastfeed.
*I want to try deliver the placenta naturally but will have the injection if there are any problems or it takes too long.

I didn't want to make a huge birth plan because I hear that babies can be quite unpredictable and tend not to follow plans so I just wanted something simple.

I'm hoping it will be a nice, simple, natural, calm birth... And I hope baby girl co-operates :D

I am very open to change and won't be upset if I don't get what I want. I don't want a c section or to be induced or have an epidural but if one of these things happened it wouldn't be the end of the world as long as baby girl is born healthy and safely.

Did your birth go as you planned?

REVIEW - V05 Nourish Me Truly

I had run out of my normal shampoo and conditioner and fancied a change. Looking around the shelves I saw V05 Nourish Me Truly so I thought i'd give it a go and pick some up. I must say with a special offer price of just £1 this did make the decision a little easier for me but I was far from disappointed.

I wouldn't say my hair was badly damaged but I do use heat products so thought Nourish Me Truly would give my hair a little TLC.

The packaging is very cute and girly, which I love. It stood out in the shop and was the thing that attracted me to the product in the first place.

The product itself is gorgeous! The shampoo really cleans my hair and the conditioner leaves my hair so soft and gives an amazing shine. It also smells so good and the scent stays on my hair the whole day, I literally walk around all day smelling my hair! (I bet I look strange but I don't care, it smells that good!)

This is my new favourite shampoo and conditioner!! I will defiantly be purchasing these again and will be getting the bigger bottles next time as I love it so much.

I must say having not used VO5 products for quite a few years I am now very tempted to try out some of there styling products as these look amazing.

35 Weeks Pregnant

Another week under my belt and and another week closer to meeting our baby girl. I get more excited as each day passes.

Not a lot has changed this week. Things are still going well and everything seems right on track. I did have another midwife appointment and unlike what I thought baby girl hasn't engaged anymore but my midwife said not to worry as i'm not even 36 weeks so still have plenty of time. She did say though that baby girl is in the perfect position for labour and is still growing really well. Overall I couldn't ask for anything more. I told her I was still having the pinching type pain and she said that although baby girl hasn't engaged anymore she could be moving her head around and this is causing me to have the pain. We also wrote my birth plan at my midwife appointment and a post will coming up shortly :D

Mark pampered me a little this week and painted my toes as I have no hope reaching them now... I find it hard enough to put my socks on these days never mind concentrating to paint my toes! I am quite proud to say he did quite a good job :D

Also this week I noticed my first stretch marks... the evil little things! I got terribly upset and cried on Mark's shoulder for a while. I'm hoping I won't get too many more and that they will fade over time but I know that once baby girl is here I won't care and will see them as beautiful marks of my pregnancy.

Weight Gain In Pregnancy

All my life I have always been petite. I am 5'4 and was slim pre pregnancy, slightly underweight. While we were trying to conceive I read that if you are underweight it can effect your chances of conceiving so during the months I did put on a little weight. I was still on the borderline of a normal weight for my height but I was happy with what I had managed to achieve so far.

When I did fall pregnant as some of you may know I had bad morning sickness up until around 16 weeks and this did cause me to basically lose all the extra weight I put on. The midwife didn't seem worried and just said they would keep an eye on my weight and how the baby was growing to make sure everything was fine. Thankfully at both scans the baby measured perfectly and now at every midwife appointment still measures stop on.

So far I have put on around two stone. It does bother me a little that I have put weight on but after all I knew it would happen and I know that it is the best thing for baby girl so she can have a healthy start to life. But it is getting harder as I get bigger to look in the mirror and see all the extra weight. It's one thing stepping on the scales and see the numbers rise but another thing to look in the mirror and see a bigger version of yourself looking back at you.

I find it hard these days to feel pretty/sexy and not point out the extra weight on my face or my thighs. I am starting to worry about how I am going to lose all the weight after I give birth and I'm hoping I won't find it too hard. I plan on letting myself fully recover then eat a balanced diet and exercise as much as I can even if it is just a half hour walk 3/4 times a week.

Some days I do get upset but I am super thankful for Mark when I have these down days... he is always there to cheer me up and tell me how beautiful I look. I think he actually prefers me pregnant and with the extra weight.

How did you feel about weight gain in pregnancy? Did you worry about losing it all after the birth?

Antenatal Class and Hospital Tour

At my 28 week midwife appointment my midwife told me to go ahead and book our antenatal class and hospital tour. This would take place at 34 weeks and would be a 3 hour session on a Saturday. I always thought antenatal classes took place over a a few weeks and got told that this used to be the case but people kept missing out weeks so missed on vital information which if you ask me is there own fault!!

Anyway the time had come... I dragged Mark away from the football and we headed to the class. We were one of ten couples who attended. A lovely lady spoke to us about the stages of labour and looking after baby.  She went into quite a lot of detail and was able to answer any questions we had. Half way through we had a hospital tour to break the session up a little. The labour ward was the first stop and was for mums to be that either had complications in pregnancy or wanted an epidural. It was nice but didn't feel quite right. The next stop was the birth centre. This was still in the hospital but had its own entrance and was completley separated. It felt a lot more relaxed and a much more friendly environment. It was run by midwives and had seven different rooms, two of which had birthing pools. It was for mums to be that had no problems in pregnancy and was the place where I was booked to give birth! The rooms were a decent size with there own bathrooms.  Partners were allowed to stay over and it also had less strict visitor hours.

Before the class and tour I was feeling very nervous and didn't really know what to expect. I learnt a lot and feel a lot more comfortable now and i'm actually starting to look forward to giving birth. I know its going to be hard and hurt like hell but I also know that at the end of it i'm going to be able to hold my baby girl in my arms and in that moment nothing else will matter. Mark also found it very useful and said he learnt a lot!! I think he feels a lot more prepared to support me in labour as he now knows a little more of what to expect. The class also changed my mind on my birth plan and what I thought I wanted but I will go into more detail in my birth plan post which will be coming up soon.

Did you have a positive experience with your antenatal class?

34 Weeks Pregnant

I know I say this every week but I really can't believe how fast the weeks are passing by! I only have 6 weeks until my due date.... that is so crazy! I thought the weeks would slow down but somehow they are going by faster! Lol!

I am pretty sure that this week baby girl has dropped and engaged a little more. I have had the same pinching pains as before which are getting more uncomfortable each time it happens. I'm also feeling more pressure and it feels like my bump has got lower. Some people have even commented that it looks like my bump has dropped. I can defiantly tell a difference as now I can feel my ribs again just under my bust. So hopefully things are moving in the right direction once again and she is that little bit closer to coming.

Speaking of her coming... we got the car seat this week. Having never really seen a car seat up close before I thought it was going to be really small but I was so surprised when I saw how big it actually was. Baby girl is going to look so small in it. I still find it crazy that in a matter of weeks we will be bringing a little newborn baby home in it. We officially have everything we need for her to arrive now. We still haven't got the pushchair but figure that we won't need that straight away and hopefully we will be ordering that at around 38 weeks. So if she comes near her due date we will have it all ready.

I also got a few more things for my hospital bag and it's nearly all done now. Both a scary and exciting thought!

I'm so excited that things are finally starting to come together and although it may not have been how we originally thought things were going to turn out it really doesn't matter :D

Also this week I had a surprise baby shower which Mark organised. Read all about it HERE
We also went to our antenatal class and had a hospital tour. I will be posting a blog post about our experience in a few days so look out for that!

Baby Shower

Sunday was my baby shower :D It was a surprise but one of my friends messed up and told me by accident! But for everyone else I pretended I didn't know. Mark organised the whole thing and even made some buns. He did tell me after that he was going to decorate them but ran out of time. They tasted amazing though! He also had pink balloons, baby shower cups and plates, a banner and personalized kitkats.

My friend came and picked me up and we went out for a drink and a catch up which was lovely. She then brought me back home and made an excuse to come into the house. A few other friends were all waiting for me in the front room. It was only a small shower... there were 5 of us in total but I couldn't of wished for anymore as all my close friends were there.

We played games and had cake and buns to eat. The games we played were guess mum's bump size, the poopy nappy game and guess how many sweets were in the baby bottles. The bump game was so funny... watching them try to guess how big they thought my belly was with a piece of string. They all thought I was a lot bigger than I actually was. The poopy nappy game is a game where you melt different chocolate bars in a nappy and you have to guess which chocolate is in which nappy by smelling them.... very funny!! And the last we each had to guess how many sweets were in the baby bottle. Each game had a prize which Mark also organised.

After the games I opened presents and everyone spoilt baby girl so much!! I was overwhelmed with everything and did tear up!! She got lots of lovely clothes, bath things, nappies and even a play mat/gym.

I must say the biggest surprise was Mark's present... he got me an AMAZING nappy cake!! I didn't even know he knew what they were. Everyone at the shower was also amazed. It was beautiful.

After the presents we chatted about baby things and watched baby girl have hiccups and go crazy inside my belly. I had an amazing time and couldn't of asked for anything more. I'm so very grateful to Mark for organizing everything and doing such a good job. He is so sweet!
