Birth Plan

So last week at my midwife appointment we wrote my birth plan. After the antenatal class and hospital tour I felt very confident in knowing what I did and didn't want. Mark was unable to come to the appointment but we discussed before hand what we both wanted. I felt that it was important for us to have this discussion as I wanted him to feel involved.

So here is a little run down of my birth plan and my wishes for labour.

* I will be giving birth at my local birthing centre, which is joined to the hospital in case of an emergency.
*Mark will be my birthing partner.
*I am hoping for a water birth.
* I plan to get into the pool at around 6cm and until then will be as active as I can be walking around and using the birthing ball.
*I hope to manage on gas and air as pain relief.
*Mark will be cutting the cord.
*Me and baby girl will have skin to skin contact straight after she is born.
* I plan to breastfeed.
*I want to try deliver the placenta naturally but will have the injection if there are any problems or it takes too long.

I didn't want to make a huge birth plan because I hear that babies can be quite unpredictable and tend not to follow plans so I just wanted something simple.

I'm hoping it will be a nice, simple, natural, calm birth... And I hope baby girl co-operates :D

I am very open to change and won't be upset if I don't get what I want. I don't want a c section or to be induced or have an epidural but if one of these things happened it wouldn't be the end of the world as long as baby girl is born healthy and safely.

Did your birth go as you planned?

Thanks for reading,

Nicola xx

  1. That sounds like a great plan hun, I didn't actually make one with any of mine. I just said NO Epidural - Thats the only thing I felt strongly about.

I hope it all goes well for you hun, babies are very unpredictable but as long as they arrive safely, that's all that matters in the end.

    You'l be great x

    1. I really don't fancy having an epidural either but my pain tolerance is RUBBISH!! I am quite interested to see how I will cope during labour. I am hoping I can be strong and get this baby girl out!! :D

  2. Your birth plan sounds identical to mine! Mine didn't go to plan whatsoever, but I won't inflict that story on you until you've had your little lady- I know by the time I was at your stage I was sick to the back teeth of labour horror stories lol! It's good you're going in with an open mind, and I hope you get the birth you want. xxx

  3. That all sounds so amazing my lovely! I wish all the best for you and hope that you get everything on that list. The birthing pool is truly the most amazing thing in the world! I cannot rate it any higher than I do.

If and when I do have another baby, I will only do it in the pool!

Remember that not all labour's are horror stories, and I think you will have a truly magical experience.

So excited for you and your little family!!

    1. Thank you :D I am very excited to using the pool and i'm hoping it will help with the pain!!

  4. How exciting! They didn't even look at my birth plan for Honey as she arrive so quickly, prob a good thing! So i haven't written one for number 2. As you say they are so unpredictable! Mega good luck! Xxx

  5. Loves it... I was the same as you but nothing went to plan for me apart from my birth patners & cutting the cord lol - I really hope you get what you want hunny xx
