Birthing Partner

Who did you have are your birthing partner? If you could would you change that person?

I will be having Mark. I trust him 100% and I know he will do a fantastic job. I would love to have my mum there for support as I know that it would be useful to have someone who has gone through the experience of childbirth and come out the other side but as she lives over 2 hours away this isn't practical.

I am very much looking forward to having Mark support me and I think it will be an amazing and special experience for us both. I do think labour and birth is something quite personal so i'm glad in a way that it will just be us two and we will welcome baby girl into this world as a family unit.

The thing i'm not looking forward too is if he just stands there like a goon and has no idea what to do or how to help. We have gone over the birth plan and everything we want to happen in an ideal world but I am still thinking about getting him to do a little research into how to be the best birthing partner.

So... any tips for dads to be in the delivery room?

Thanks for reading,

Nicola xx

  1. Ah, I think Dads have a tough time too really. Not a patch on what we go through *obviously* but it's hard to know what to do when they haven't been through it either.

My birth partner has always been my hubby.

My advise is just listen to you, and go from there. If he feels useless there is no harm in asking if there is anything you want him to do or get you.

For me, just knowing he was there was enough. He is a strong man, so I know I can rely on him and trust him completely. He was my voice when I couldn't get the words out.

Going to get mushy now lol....But make sure you've talked about this together before the big day, that way you both know where you are (as much as you can)But it is, like you say, a magical and very personal experience, and I'm sure your man will be great.

    1. Thand you so much for your advice and help! I know he is a little nervous as to what to expect, as am i. But I am sure he will do a great job and we will have an amazing experience together Xx

  2. Hi Nicola

Here are two posts I wrote for dads especially about their role as birth partner. Plenty of other information on the blog.

If I can be of any help please just let me know
