You Make Me Smile - Week 7

So I haven't joined in for the last few weeks but I'm back :D

The first thing this week that has made me smile is the sunshine. Me and Paige went to park and had a lovely afternoon.

Second thing this week... baby smiles. Paige smiles all the time now and it really is the cutest thing!! We just sit and stare at her all day pulling silly faces and making silly noises.

Last but not least is shopping!! We went shopping and got Paige a mamas and papas baby snug. So far it is great and we love it so much. A full review will be coming soon when we've used it a little more :D

My Body After Pregnancy

10 weeks have pasted since having my gorgeous little girl and my body feels a mess. I always thought I would be one of those women that are straight back into their old jeans days after giving birth. But it's hasn't been that easy.

My diastisis recti means that my mummy tummy will be around for a little longer than I planned. I have to work extra hard to get the muscles to close back together. So far so good. The muscles seem to be closing but I'm still waiting for my appointment to see a physical therapist.

Elsewhere on my body I still have extra weight. Around 10lbs that I want to lose. If I wanted to get back to my pre pregnancy weight I would have to lose A LOT more. But I was tiny before, a size 6! And now I'd love to be a size 8. I used to struggle finding clothes that fit me and I don't want to go through that again.

All my life I've been small... I'm only 5'4 as is it. I've always been underweight and found it very hard to put weight on. I was very lucky, I could eat what I wanted and I'd still stay tiny.

While trying to conceive I read that been under weight could effect your chances and I believe it did play a part. So I tried to gain weight and managed to gain a few pounds which I was happy with.

During pregnancy I lost some weight in the first few months due to bad morning sickness but then put it back on just fine. I expected to put a little more weight on than most people as I was so small before. I think in the end I put on around 2 and a half maybe 3 stone. I didn't weigh myself in the final weeks because it honestly didn't bother me. I wanted a healthy baby and boy did I get one at 8lb 6oz :)

Now not only do I have extra weight, my hips are also wider and my rib cage broader. Mark says it gives me a more womanly figure but I'm not so keen.

My stretch marks look a lot better than they did 10weeks ago and I know they will improve some more. I thought it would be the end of the world and it really isn't. It just proves that I carried a healthy baby. I'm proud of them. I don't think I'll be wearing a bikini anytime soon but maybe in time.

I have gone back and fourth with the idea of showing you my belly after pregnancy. As you can see I couldn't quite manage to show you in colour or give you a front view but I did my best.

While I'm not 100% happy with my body I know in time it will improve. It may not be exactly like it was before but I'm willing to pay that price for my beautiful girl.

Canal and chocolate cake!

The sun was shining and we were desperate to get out of the house. We got dressed, loaded up the pram with supplies and strapped Paige in. Off we went.

Our plan.... A nice walk along the canal.

I feel very lucky that we live so close to the canal, literally a 10 minute walk away. It's so peaceful and so gorgeous to look at. As we walked we talked to Paige as she took in these new unfamiliar surroundings. Her eyes were wide with wonder the whole time. We went over bridges and past water falls. She heard many new sounds and enjoyed every second, as did we.

We then decided to have a nice stroll around the garden centre. I got a little hungry... I had just walked around for an hour!! Mark went into the garden centre cafe and came out with this beast!!

A huge slice of chocolate cake all for me! It had chocolate frosting on the top with magic stars and Cadbury nibbles. Inside were Maltesers and chocolate butter cream. I'm such a sucker for chocolate cake!! It was YUMMY and I must admit it made the long walk very worth it. I wonder if they'll let me buy the whole cake next time? :D

All in all a fun family day was had :D

Do you and your family go for nice walks?

In-laws

So my soon to be in-laws are coming to stay in a couple of weeks for a week. It will be the first time they have seen Paige in person (we do weekly video calls) and although I'm very excited for them to meet her I also remember how stressful it is having them stay with us. They live 220 miles away so a flying visit every week or so isn't really an option.

They will be staying in Paige's room on a blow up mattress. I personally think it would be better for everyone if they stayed in a hotel... they would get sleep when Paige is up in the night and we would all get a break from each other. Our house isn't the biggest in the world and during the week we are all on top of each other and in each others pockets.

So does anyone have any tips to help me deal with the stress? Do you have the same problems?

REVIEW - ZippySuit Bib

Me and Paige were very lucky to be sent a gorgeous Zippy Suit bib to try out!! We were sent the beautiful starry night/ baby pink design :D

Information
Zippy Suit bibs are a super soft, super absorbent bandana dribble bibs. They are 100% cotton and have two popper fastenings so they easily adjust as your baby grows.

Things I like
First up the beautiful design. It is very cute and girly without been over the top. It is very soft against Paige's skin so is very comfortable. Another great thing is the price... there only £3.75 each! Which I think for the quality of the product they are defiantly worth a lot more.

Things I would change
I honestly wouldn't change a thing. I think they have thought about every detail and the designs are beautiful.
Paige loves her new bib
As you can see from the pictures the bib is a little too big on Paige but that just means she has plenty of room to grow :D She has now started to chew on her hands and dribble a lot! So this bib quickly soaks everything up and saves me and her many clothes changes throughout the day.
Fab product!! 10/10 Check out the Zippy Suit website HERE for more bib designs and of course the fabulous Zippy Suit itself!!
Thank you Zippy Suit for sending us this bib to review and thank you for reading,

UPDATE - 17/07/2012

Our little baby girl is already 2 months old. I can't quite believe it. She is getting so big so quickly. She has changed so much over these past 2 months... saying that so have me and Mark.

I don't look the same, my body has changed, were both always tired and sometimes a little grumpy but we wouldn't change a thing! These 2 months have been the most amazing ones of our lives so far.

Paige now sleeps 10-4am most night and then goes back to bed until around 7ish. She has 5oz of milk every 3hours. Wears 0-3 months clothes (although some of them are getting slightly too small now) She has the most amazing smile and giggle. Can support her own head like a big girl and tracks our movement with her eyes. She loves cuddles and looking around. Hates been laid down unless she is sleeping and much prefers sitting up like in the picture above.

I thinking about getting her a Bumbo seat... any experience with these, good or bad?

Life of Millie!!

Millie and Loki

Everyone meet Loki. He is a gorgeous black and white cat who lives next door. He is Millie's boyfriend but they haven't actually ever met face to face as Millie is an indoor cat. But he comes and sits in our garden and Millie sits on the window ledge and they look lovingly at each other.

Does your pet have a boyfriend/girlfriend? :D

REVIEW - Fisher Price Soothe and Glow Seahorse

Paige and her seahorse

Information
This seahorse plays music and has a belly which lights up. To turn the seahorse on you press his belly and when Paige gets a little older she will be able to press his belly herself. It is very soothing and helps her to fall asleep. It comes in two colours and you can buy it from Argos HERE It costs £16.99 which I don't think is a bad price. It also has fantastic reviews (one of the reasons we actually bought it) and I defiantly recommend it.

Things I like
There is a good mix of songs/sounds and the night light is a nice extra feature. One of the main reasons I love it is that the music and light fades out rather than stopping suddenly. I find that this helps keeps Paige asleep. We have a swing that plays music and when that is playing she tends to wake up when the music suddenly stops. We both love the seahorse so much that it is now a big part of our bedtime routine. An added bonus is that it also helps me and Mark fall asleep as it is so relaxing! :D

Things I would change
It would be nicer if you could pick how long the songs last as I sometimes have to put it on twice. I find that 5 minutes is sometimes too short if she isn't very sleepy when I put her down.

Do you have a favourite toy for your little one? Any you would recommend?

Our 6 week check ups

So me and Paige had our 6 week check ups, even though Paige is now 7 weeks. Silly doctors!!

Paige
The doctor checked her all over and said everything looked perfect. He also weighed her and she is now 12lb 10oz. She is putting on roughly 1 and a half oz a day!! He picked her up and was very shocked with how much she weighed. So much so he had to put her down again to reposition his hands so he didn't drop her. I had noticed while changing her nappy that she had some extra tissue on her belly button. We asked the doctor about it and it's called an umbilical granuloma. This is where when the umbilical cord dries up and falls off but a small stork of tissue is left. It's pink/red in colour and will ooze until it is treated. Before we went to the doctors we had looked online and thought that this was what she had so we were keeping it clean and dry until we went to the doctor. He gave us some cream and told us to apply it twice a day. If the cream doesn't help we will have to go back and they will treat it with some silver nitrate. Fingers crossed the cream works. We also booked an appointment for Paige's injections. I'm a little nervous for them as I will be taking her on my own. I hope she copes well.

Any advice for helping me cope?

Mummy & Paige

Me

The doctor didn't really do much for my 6 week check. I had previously been checked by my midwife as I was a little concerned that I hadn't healed well. The midwife told me that I had healed but not in the correct way. She referred me to the hospital and I was checked out by a gynecologist. He had a look and said that everything was perfectly fine and I had nothing to worry about. I have no idea why the midwife was so worried but she caused me great worry and stress! He didn't check my blood pressure or weigh me (I still haven't weighed myself since giving birth, I guess i'm a little scared). But I did ask him about my stomach. I noticed that considering I am 7 weeks post delivery my stomach still seems a little big considering I'm so small. I did some research ( like you do ) and it seems I have Diastasis Recti, which the doctor confirmed. Diastasis Recti is a separation of the stomach muscles. It is apparently very common during pregnancy and after delivery. It is caused by the growing uterus pushing again the stomach muscles. Part of the reason my muscles have separated would be because Paige was so big at birth and I am so small. I still find it a bit strange that at 40 weeks pregnant I was only measuring 38 weeks. My stomach muscles must have worked very hard before they finally separated. He has referred me to physical therapy but did say that the separation isn't massive. I looked online and found a few different exercises that help bring the muscles back together and have been doing them everyday so hopefully this is helping and to me it does feel like it is gradually getting smaller but we will see what the physical therapist says in a few weeks time. I'm desperate to get my body back and because of the Diastasis Recti I can't do any hard abdominal workouts as it will make the separation worse and I'll never get rid of my mummy tummy!! So I have to concentrate on sorting that out first then I can workout.

Daddy Post - Pregnancy & Birth....What's The Fuss!!

Hello all! I'm Mark (think Nicola refers to me as the great one!!). Nic has asked me to write a quick post on how I was affected during the pregnancy and birth of Paige.

So, here it goes!

After trying for just over a year, it was amazing to finally get the news Nic was pregnant. Although, Nic made a lot more fuss about that purple line than I did!! The pregnancy seemed to start quite 'easily', I mean there didn't seem to be much stress on Nic. She seemed to be enjoying every second. That was until the morning sickness started! As it became more frequent, the less Nic would get upset and understand it was just gonna be a regular thing. For me this was probably the hardest part of the pregnancy as I couldn't really do much, I knew it was just part of the process. It didn't make it any easier though, seeing someone you love in such distress is always going to be hard.

Once the sickness had stopped, everything began to get a bit more exciting. We got to find out that we were going to be having a little girl, and the planning could really start! I knew that I would have to get used to the colour pink...and quickly...as Nic is such a girly girl herself! Once the shopping had commenced I really got to see Nic enjoy herself. Picking out clothes and shoes and teddys and other things that we didn't really need!!

Once the due date was creeping up I started working every hour I could just to make sure that we had everything we needed. I was so tired but Paige needed a decent pram so the tiredness was justified in my eyes.

I had never been in such a state of panic when Nic revealed she thought she was having her first contraction! This seemed to be the normal way to feel right until the day Paige turned up. Nic was having contractions for over a day and its fair to say I was quickly getting more and more annoyed with all the stupid little sounds that came with every single twinge! I understood she was in discomfort...possibly even pain...but I needed to sleep!! When we went to hospital and was told Nic was going to be kept in I felt a massive sense of relief...as well as the odd bit of self doubt in the back of my head. Although now was a little too late to start thinking are we ready for this!!

The labour was a lot harder than I was expecting....I mean on me, not Nic! Nic had a rough idea what was going to happen to her, but I hadn't been told anything that would be expected of me. As the day went on I was feeling more and more useless, occasionally offering a supportive message because I knew I should. Trying to be supportive is the hardest thing to do when you are absolutely pooing your pants!!

When Nic was told to start pushing I seemed to get a second wind, the adrenaline didn't take long to kick in I can assure you! This was it...no going back now! I was expecting a good hour or two before I finally got to meet the tiny little person living inside my princess...not a mere 38 minutes!! I remember one of the thing first I said to Nic was 'based on how easy you made that look, getting kicked in the nuts really does hurt more!! I mean I was expecting a tirade of expletives, but all that was said was two or three 'oh my god' and a few screams. Nic made the entire day seem effortless and I am sure that I was feeling more pain hearing her scream the way she did.

I have never been more proud of Nicola, she proved that everyone has immense inner strength. She truly is a great inspiration to me, and I just hope that Paige realises how fantastic her mum is one day! (no Nic didn't make me write that!)

Lets just hope the next pregnancy is just as 'easy'!!

Mark

DIY Photoshoot

While I was pregnant me and mark talked about having a professional photoshoot done while I had my big belly so we could always have the pictures to look back on. Now while I love being in front of a camera mark isn't too keen so I kept putting of booking a shoot and finally Paige was born and it was just too late. I am very glad I took my belly pictures each week so I can always look back on them!

So I decided that we defiantly had to have some pictures done of Paige while she was still little. I was looking online at places and couldn't quite decide on somewhere so I thought I would give it a try myself with the intention that if they turned out rubbish it didn't really matter and we would find a professional to take some better ones.

Well over the weekend I had a go. I set up some white blankets in the bedroom near the window to get as much natural light as possible and off I went with our little camera. I loved every second and Paige seemed to enjoy herself too, she must take after mummy and likes to be in front of the camera :D

I wish we could afford a better camera and a better set up so we could get even better pictures but I am pretty pleased with how they turned out.

What do you think?

Did you have a professional photography session with your little one? How was it?
