Weaning - Baby Led

If you have seen my other post about weaning HERE you will see that Paige has tried baby rice, porridge, apples and sweet potato. These were all very smooth and given to her using a spoon. She seemed to enjoy it.

She is now 5 and a half months and she hasn't really tried anything else new. I know that she is ready for solids as she shows all the signs but it's not like she is drinking a huge amount of milk that I feel like I have to give her solids everyday.

This got me thinking. I gave Paige a carrot stick the other day, peeled and raw just to chew on to help her gums. She loved it!!! She is so good at picking it up and putting it straight in her mouth. This got me thinking about maybe trying baby led weaning when she is 6 months.

I've read a little into it but I would love to hear your experience, good and bad!

I would also love to hear about some good foods to use for baby led weaning! I'm thinking cooked carrot sticks, banana, avocado.

Thanks for reading,

Nicola Xx

  1. BLW is the best thing ever! So easy, no hassle, relaxing for you both and the way nature intended-it's the way babies ate before blenders and sieves!

Simply trust your baby. Recognise that gagging is natural, normal and beneficial to baby. Choking is not and baby is silent when choking and it is very rare.

Buy the BLW book by Gill Rapley and have fun.

    PS-embrace the mess!

    1. Thank you for the tips!!! Very excited to start :) Xx

  2. I reckon if you think shes ready she's ready :) Mum knows best right? I've had plenty of people say to me dont do it until such and such. But Amelia hasn't really had any food as such yet. shes 6 and a half months now. But only had pured stuff im too scared haha! I tried giving her a cucumber but i thought she was going to choke on it. So gave up. I think I'll start with some other soft veg and fruit first. Let me know how it goes!

    1. Awwww. I def will keep updated!! Have you thought about the fresh food feeders. Them little nets that the baby can suck on so they get the food but no risk of big lumps coming off!! xx
