Review - Munchkin Disney

Paige loves Minnie Mouse. She gets so excited when she sees her and has many toys, outfits and a sippy cup which she loves.

So when we were asked to review the new Disney range from munchkin I couldn't think of a better fit.

The set arrived which included a Click Lock Flip Straw cup, a plate, bowl and a fork and spoon. My first impressions were that they were so cute. They are all pink and green and feature Minnie Mouse. Even mark thought they were cute!

To the testing...

Paige first tested out the cup. Now Paige has never used a cup with a straw before so she didn't quite get the hang of it at first. She would tip the cup upside down and suck and not get very far. But even when she was trying to figure it out no water came out of the cup unless you sucked the straw properly. I love the opening of the straw making it very easy to pop in a bag for traveling. It's the perfect size too.

The plate and bowl are a particular favourite of mine. They both have a rubber edge around the bottom making them less likely to slide around on a high chair tray which is fab with a baby or toddler. The bowl has high sides which helps toddler guide food into their hands or onto a spoon/fork. The plate has 3 sections. Great for meal times as you out 3 separate foods in each one. I know some toddlers that are very funny about some of their food touching so this is amazing. I love having the sections for Paige because it means that she can see each food item more clearly an decide what she wants to eat.

The spoon and fork are perfect for Paige right now. She is at the age where she wants to feed herself and is getting interested in spoons especially. She now understands that the spoon goes into the food and then into we mouth. Getting the food into the spoon is another story but its all in the practicing! We haven't see the fork yet as quite frankly I'm a little scared. The fork isn't very sharp with rounded tips but I think I'd prefer Paige to get used to the spoon first. Both the spoon and fork are a great size for little hands and Paige seems to be able to control them very well. They have a curved handle to make them easier to use.

I think the range is fabulous. Amazing design from two brilliant companies!

The cup is £4.50 The bowl, plate, spoon and fork set is £8.99. For more information please see the Munchkin website HERE.

Britmums Live - Part 1

Friday 21st June

The day had come around so quickly in the end. I had butterfly's in my belly and tears in my eyes. I said my goodbyes and left for the train. Everything ran very smoothly and I sat on the train to London wondering about the next couple of days. Would people be how I thought they were? Would they be disappointed in me?

All my nerves were soon to be gone. The lovely Lisa and Leyla were on the same train as me but in first class, lucky ladies!! I received a text from Lisa saying they were coming to see me. My tummy was doing flips and I was so nervous but as soon as I saw them I relaxed. I've spoken to Lisa for quite a while now and it was just a continuation of our talks on twitter. Very strange but lovely at the same time.

After that first meeting, the first two other bloggers I met in person, I felt fine. We met the gorgeous Katie and her baby girl at the train station and travelled to the venue together. Katie is one of those people that make you feel at ease straight away and Ioved her accent!!

We arrived at the brewery. Kerry, Charlotte and Bex then found me. I'd been so excited to meet Kerry and Charlotte. A day hardly goes by when we don't what's app or tweet. I probably talk to them more than my real life friends.

I felt like I was with old friends.

We chatted and laughed so much. After meeting some more people including Sarah we registered and went to the opening session. We had a lovely welcome speech and then it was time for the first keynote speaker, Kirstie Allsopp. Kirstie was funny and so down to earth. Next up was the Brand Debate Panel. We found out what brands and bloggers really want from each other. The key is relationships. Everything is built upon that first email or first point of contact. Be clear about what you want as a blogger when working with a brand!

After tea and coffee and a walk around the hub it was time for the next session, Getting Paid. A lot of bloggers get paid for doing what they love in some way or another. I think it's amazing that sometimes someone will pay me to blog. I can do it from the sofa in my pjs with a cup of tea. I still find it amazing. Be confident when approaching brands, believe in your blog and make a media pack full of all your information.

Next up were the bibs. After drinking champagne, watching, laughing and making more friends the night was over. The chatting continued to the point where we were forced to leave, in a nice way obviously.

We had decided to go for a meal but it was already 9pm. I didn't want a late night as Paige hasn't been sleeping well so I left the group and ordered room service. This was such an amazing time of the evening. Yes it may have cost a lot but it was alway going to in a 5* hotel but it was worth it. I felt truly spoilt and pampered. Sat in bed in my pjs while eating room service and watching some trashy tv.

I spoke to mark and then snuggled down in my bed for some sleep ready for day 2. What a day it would be!

All this wouldn't of been possible without Swimwear365 so a big thank you again!

First Night Away

Over the weekend I attended Britmums Live. A post on that is coming soon. This meant an over night stay in London and leaving Mark and Paige behind in Yorkshire.

While I was nervous about leaving Paige for the first time over night I knew that she would fine because she was staying at home with daddy. It didn't seem as bad as us both leaving her. This wouldn't work at all and to be honest I can't see me and Mark leaving her anytime soon. She still has pretty bad stranger anxiety and isn't too comfortable with anyone other than me and Mark.

The morning I was due to leave came and Paige woke up at 5am. I got up with her so I could spend some time with her before I left. This meant that she would be napping when I left so I had to say goodbye earlier just before her nap at 7:30am. I cried my eyes out, I knew it was only for 48 hours but still, it broke my heart that I was leaving her after spending every single night with her for the past 13 months. Paige on the other hand didn't care that I was leaving, well she didn't understand. So off she went for her nap not realizing that she wouldn't see her mummy for 48 hours.

While I was away she was a very good girl for her daddy apart from a 40 minute period when she was screaming for me. Seems she missed me as much as I missed her :(

I got home after a lovely time in London and Paige was asleep so I had to wait until the following day for a cuddle. I imagined Paige walking towards me with a big smile on her face like she does when Mark gets home from work but that didn't happen. I got her from cot the next morning and she wasn't really bothered to be honest. She was a little off with me which broke my heart even more. All she wanted was daddy, normally she only wants me. But once she warmed back up to me everything was back to normal.

It was good for me to have some mummy time and for Paige to have some quality time with her daddy. But I won't be leaving her again anytime soon.

How was your first night away from your baby?

Review - Spilly Spoon

No parent likes seeing there child in pain. Whatever the pain is from it isn't nice. Recently Paige has been teething quite badly. Causing her a lot of pain and disturbing her sleep. One thing that we have found helps her is some medicine just to take the edge off her pain so we can all get some rest. Giving her this medicine isn't always the easiest thing to do.

When Spilly Spoon got in touch asking us to review the spoon I was keen to give it a try as I have heard very good things but things didn't go quite to plan. First off lets have a look at what the Spilly Spoon does.

The Spilly Spoon is a Non Spill Medicine Spoon with a Character theme that is both appealing and child friendly whilst being practical for mums and dads. It’s designed to withhold up to 10ml of liquid medicine and the spoon can be laid on a work surface enabling you to pick the child up and single handedly administer the medicine. When your child gets to a certain age they want to do everything themselves,  generally with it going everywhere!! The Spilly Spoon is al so easy to use and clean. The medicine can be easily measured out into either 2.5ml, 5ml, 7.5ml or 10ml. It can be washed with warm soapy water or put into a dishwasher. It can also be sterilized.

Sounds fantastic, right?!

I have to admit that I do love the Spilly Spoon but it didn't quite work out for Paige. She is now 13 months old and does like to feed herself so when we were using the Spilly spoon she was grabbing it and trying to use it herself. Some of the medicine fell out and ended up on the sofa which isn't the fault of the Spilly Spoon at all. I personal think the problem was nothing to do with the Spilly spoon but with age. The age that Paige is at makes her want to feed herself or at least try and I just think that she is still a little bit too young to do this with any sort of control. I think that if she were older or younger the Spilly spoon would of worked very well.

That said I will love the Spilly spoon and we will keep it until she is a little older and try again when she has mastered the art of feeding herself. Right now for this age I still find that using a syringe is easier, quickly and cleaner.

The Spilly Spoon retails at £4.99 which I think it is a great price.

Have you tried the Spilly spoon?

Maternity Shopping Made Easy

When I was pregnant with Paige I didn't start maternity clothes shopping until I was around 20 weeks. I took a while to start showing and then just used a little extension on my regular jeans to make them last longer. But maternity clothes are important. Once I found my perfect pair of maternity jeans I was so much more comfortable and now if we were lucky enough to get pregnant again I would go straight into maternity clothes. To be honest after Paige was born I didn't want to stop wearing them!

What made me take so long shopping for maternity clothes was walking around all the shops and trying them on, I honestly just couldn't be bothered. It would of been so much easier to order things online that I liked the look of and get them delivered to my house where I could try them on in peace and didn't feel rushed into buying anything. Your body changes enough in pregnancy the last thing you want is added pressure while trying to buy clothes for your new shape.

Vertbaudet do a great selection of maternity clothing. There really is something for everyone. I love these two tops and trousers. Both the tops are very wearable and look very comfortable. You can easily mix and match the tops to go with any of the trouser to create different looks. I feel like it's very important to be able to dress up or down maternity outfits so you get more wear out of them.

Top Left - Maternity Blouse £29, Right - Maternity T-shirt was £18 now £14.50
Bottom Left - Maternity Trousers £35 Right - Maternity Jeans £29

I fell in love with this cardigan, top and trousers outfit when I first saw it, again each item can be worn separately and be matched with different items but it looks like the perfect outfit to put your feet up and relax.

Left - Maternity cardigan, top and trousers outfit was £49 now £39.20
Top - Maternity Breastfeeding top £17
Bottom - Maternity dress £45

Vertbaudet also have a gorgeous range of dresses that are super cute but still very stylish. Dresses are so easy and comfortable to wear when pregnant especially in the summer when its warm.

They also do some simple but lovely breastfeeding tops. They have the hidden panel in so if your out and about feeding your baby then you can keep yourself covered up and not feel too exposed.

Another important item of clothing is the maternity/breastfeeding bra. I found it partially hard to find one that was both comfortable and cute. Just because your pregnant or a new mum it doesn't mean you can't have nice underwear. This one was £29 and is down to £23.20. It comes in a range of different colours and a lot of different sizes.

Have you tried Vertbaudet?

Upcoming Daddy Diary!!

So here's a brief overview of mine and Paige's relationship.

We only see each other on evenings and weekends and although she loves it when I come home, Nic is clearly her favourite parent. We've only really had the odd hour alone when Nic heads in town on the occasional Saturday. But now, this weekend it's time for change, it's time for daddy to take control, it's time for BRITMUMS!

To prove that we dads can cope just as well (well maybe almost as well) as you mums, I plan to keep a diary of Paige's very first weekend without her mummy!

Can't wait until next week for our story follow Paige on twitter for regular updates on both Friday and Saturday. Her twitter is @paige_x_ellen I'm sure she'll follow you back!

Wish me luck, Mark.

13 Month Update

Lets get stuck in to Paige's 13 month update...

She continues to walk very well and very fast. She defiantly has for the hang of it now and still tries to run. It's so cute. Apart of me still can't actually believe that she is walking! She now walks perfectly fine outside in her shoes and has for a few weeks.

She loves the park and gets so excited when we see the swings. She even gets excited right before we see the swings. She's somehow learnt the route so knows exactly where we are going, clever little girl. She also love drawing. Of course she only draws lines and not actual pictures but she still enjoys it.

She is still eating quite well. She still won't eat chicken breast or anything really meaty but she loves turkey, fish and tuna. She loves ham toasties, grapes and fruit in general. She is still on formula but we are switching her onto a lactose free milk as the doctor thinks she has an intolerance as she had a reaction to cows milk and to cheese. I'm still hoping then we switch her completely we get rid of the bottles and just use sippy cups.

Her sleep is awful. I feel like I repeat this every month but it really is rubbish. She normally goes to bed at 7pm. And sleeps until 2/3am and is then awake until 5am then will go back to sleep until 8am. I'm hoping its just a phase as she will sometimes sleep through. She has one nap around 2 hours long normally at about 11am. I recently did a day in the life you would like to have a look. This wasn't a normal day for us but gives you a rough idea. See our day in the life HERE.

She still has 4 teeth. I wonder if she will ever get anymore?! Lol. I'm pretty sure she is teething and is a dribble monster most days but no new teeth yet.

She hasn't learnt any new words this month but does make loads of different sounds. She stopped saying mama for a couple of weeks but says it again now, no idea why she stopped. She can sort colours from her ball pit balls and still loves shape sorters and books.

She weighs around 28lbs and wears 12-18m and 18-24m clothes. Both fit ok. If they did just 18m clothing I think they would be perfect as most of her 12-18m clothes are getting small!!

She still has quite bad stranger anxiety and isn't good around strangers or around people she hasn't seen in a few weeks but with people she knows well she is so cheeky and very talkative. This does make things hard but I've read in a few places that it tends to peak between 10-18 months and then goes down so fingers crossed.

Apart from all that she is mostly a happy, smiley toddler who loves to watch and learn, play and cuddle when she feels like it.

Nicola Xx

Review - Weetabix On The Go

Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day yet 8 million Brits skip breakfast every single day. Me included! Sometimes life just get in the way and you forget or don't have time.

Not anymore. Weetabix have launched the perfect on the go solution so you never have to miss breakfast again.

Weetabix On The Go are baked biscuits that provide all the good stuff you expect from Weetabix. They also come in three different flavours; Milk & Cereal, Apple with a hint of Cinnamon and Fruit & fibre. They are high in fibre, a good source of calcium and are fortified with Folic Acid and Iron. They are also individually packed for convenience. Each packet contains 4 biscuits which has the same nutritional value as eating two Weetabix. With less fat, sugar and salt than other breakfast biscuits they are the perfect choice for breakfast on the go.

We were sent some to try and loved them. Out of the two flavours we were sent our favourite was Milk & Cereal. We were also sent the Fruit & Fibre ones. The texture of the biscuits is something that took a while for me to get used to but Mark loved them straight away. They taste like a biscuit but you can definately tell the texture of Weetabix which makes them unique to other breakfast biscuits. The Fruit & Fibre flavour also have little bits of fruit in them so the texture was slightly different to the Milk & Cereal. They are a little bit dry but a cup of tea or coffee would sort that out without a problem.

Weetabix On The Go
Each box costs £2.29. In each box you get 5 packs which each contain 4 biscuits. They are available to buy in your local supermarket. More details can be found on the Weetabix WEBSITE.

So the next time your in a hurry and don't feel like you have enough time for breakfast grab a packet of Weetabix On The Go biscuits.

Have you tried Weetabix On The Go? I'd love to know what you thought.

Thanks for reading,

Nicola Xx

*Disclaimer* - We were sent some boxes of Weetabix on the go biscuits to try out for the purpose of this review but all views and opinions are mine and Marks
