I'm Getting Married!

After 5 years of being engaged me and Mark are finally getting married.

When we first got engaged
We planned on getting married a lot sooner. We gave up on trying to conceive after 15 months and started planning the wedding. Then a month later got that precious second line on a pregnancy test. I personally didn't want to be a pregnant bride. I don't have anything against it but it just isn't for me.

So we waited until now, until it felt right. I'm comfortable in my body again and having Paige there will make our day that little bit more special.

The big date is in November (I'll keep you guessing on that date for now). We are so excited!

Planning is in full force and I'm currently in the process of finding the dress. We then have to sort flowers, buy rings, buy Paige's dress (which is already picked out and so cute!) and just general wedding stuff left.

We are only having a small wedding, with 10 close family and friends at our local registry office. But I think it will be perfect. We have a lovely meal planned for afterwards.

At the end of the day our aim is to get married, as long as that happens nothing else really matters.

I'd love to know your tips for a budget wedding and let me know if you would like more wedding updates.

Thanks for reading ,

Nicola Xx

  4. Congratulations! I had a similar experience to yours. We were trying for a baby and after a year of nothing happening, we decided to start planning the wedding instead. So we booked the date with the church and then I found out I was pregnant! Fortunately we'd planned our wedding date quite a way off. I ended up giving birth to my son exactly one year before the date we had planned. So my son's first birthday was on our wedding day. Have fun planning your special day :-)

  5. How exciting! No long either. Woooo!
We were on a budget. I made our wedding favours, although if I was to get married again I'm not sure I'd bother with them at all.
I want to read more updates :-) x

  6. Congratulations!! November will be such an exciting month for us both! :)

I love how you are having a low key wedding and it is refreshing to hear as it's something that I think Nick and I would opt for too. At the end of the day I think it will be more special with less people there and wedding's shouldn't cost a small fortune. So happy for you guys!

  7. Congratulations! We got married on a budget and we saved in a few ways 1) I made our invites myself doing a mail merge print out so everyone's names were on the card and envelope - plus making a spreadsheet made planning for veggie meals etc easier. 2) find a friend with a nice car and stick ribbons on it. Much cheaper than hiring a wedding car 3) have your ceremony mid afternoon. That way you only need to feed your guests once 4) consider using table decorations other than flowers
or alongside flowers so you don't have to spend so much. We had fruit (I spent £70 on fruit but imagine what 10 centre pieces would have cost). Plus the guests ate the fruit during the disco and my friend took the leftovers home to make jam

  8. congratulations!!! I love weddings and after 6 years mine was still the best day I've ever had. If your having bridesmaids get to the high at now while there are sales on! Also look in Tesco F&F clothes range, I'm a bridesmaid next month and the floor length dress cost £60 AND you get club card points too! Whatever you buy do NOT tell them it's for a wedding unless it's necessary. Adding the word wedding to anything takes the price up 10-20%! choose flowers that are in season or if you like them get silk flowers. Make your own invites etc. it's really easy these days!

  9. Congratulations!! Make as much stuff as you can yourself, look on eBay too, there are lots of people selling things they used at their weddings. If you're having bridesmaids look at high street shops for dresses. And definitely keep us updated!! I love a good wedding :-)

  14. Hi, I'm a new follower on your blog!
I have just got engaged and i am planning my wedding too. I've found www.weddingsite.co.uk really helpful for budgeting and planning. Our venue is quite expensive so we're making cutbacks elsewhere by asking friends to do the photgraphy, flowers & cake, but I prefer it that way having loved ones help out :)

Looking forward to reading more of your posts

  15. Big congrats. I got married two years ago, and to keep the costs down, I bought fake flowers from Ebay, got my bouquet, bridesmaid bouquet, 6yo's bridesmaid star wand, and four button holes for £40 ish and I still have them stored away now.
We also didn't bother with favours, my dress came from China which was a gamble but paid off.

  16. I got married in November and had a small family wedding. My only tip is take time out just the two of you because the day goes by so quick and its nice just to have a bit of time together.

  17. Ah great news congratulations! I am not even engaged yet but found Pinterest a great way to source ideas for dIY decorations etc and Facebook might have some local wedding buy and sell pages. Good luck finding the right dress. And regarding photographers why not ask all of your guests to take pictures throughout the day on their phones cameras. Happy planning x

  18. Congratulations! I don't know if this has already been mentioned but a good idea is to create a hashtag for Instagram and put it up somewhere for everyone to see. Then as your guests take photos and post them to Instagram you have somewhere you can go to look back on your special day from their eyes.
Hope you have a brilliant day and enjoy the planning, it's so much fun. I had post planning blues when it was all done and dusted :-(

    Beki xx
