We Were Brave

If you saw my post from a couple of weeks ago you will remember that me and Paige were planning on going to a toddler group. Well after I wrote that post it actually got cancelled because of a refurbishment that was happening but the next week came around and we headed off.

As we started our 15/20 minute walk to the class I was very nervous but more in a hurry to get there, Paige was non the wiser sat in her pram. We got there and were greeted by the lovely lady holding the class called Charlotte. She was very nice and started talking to Paige asking how old she was. I butted in and said how she was almost 14 months old. Charlotte then made some comments about how big she was 14 months clearly thinking that she was older. On a little side note why do people insist on telling me how big she is. I'm her mum and I spend almost all day with her. I know she is big for her age. There is no need to make 500 comments thank you very much!

After that we went down to the class. There were only 3 other babies with 3 mums there so the class was very small. This helped Paige a great deal. After a few minutes sitting on my knee she was up and running around. The eldest of the other children was 11 and a half months and wasn't walking so they all kind of stayed in the main area while Paige explored.

We played games, sang songs and then had a few different activities which involved balls, scarves, rattles etc. She was loving it all. She, like the other babies, didn't really join in with the songs but she would clap whenever the songs mentioned clapping and I held her for some songs so she could join in a little more. I think that she is just at a strange age where she wants to explore everything but can't quite join in with the songs and stuff.

One of the last things we did was put the children in the middle of the room and play with them big parachutes. Paige loved running underneath, it had everyone laughing. At the end Paige curled up in the middle of the parachute clearly worn out by the group.

She made me so proud. With her stranger anxiety I thought it would take her a lot longer to join in but she did amazingly well and we are defiantly going to the next one in 2 weeks time.

As for me, I tried to join in convocations but the other ladies didn't really seem interested. They had all been together since the start of the sessions so I guess knew each other pretty well. I'm hoping that over time they will accept me into the group but if not me and Paige will still go and have a fabulous time together.

Thanks for reading,

Nicola Xx

  1. Awww I'm glad you went. I want to start going to these kinds of things to make new friends when I move next week but I'm a shy person so the thought makes me nervous.

I'm glad Paige enjoyed it, and I hope the other Mums start to be more friendly with you!
