Possible Homebirth

I've played around with the idea of a homebirth since the beginning of this pregnancy. Mark wasn't so keen at first but did say that if we moved house and had a bigger space he would be open to talking about the idea. With our house move just around the corner the topic of a homebirth came up.

I never actually thought that we would move to somewhere bigger before baby boy came so a homebirth was always just a lovely idea that I had in my head, now it could become a possibility my brain is working overtime to try and think about if this is something that I would want to do.

I just wanted to record my current thoughts and feelings.

*If a hospital was needed there is one literally 2 minute drive away from our new house so that makes me feel more at ease just incase.

*I'm worried about having the baby during the night and waking Paige up. I know Mark would be there to sort her out if she woke up but it would be an added pressure I guess.

*Would I be able to have a birthing pool? What about mess? What about pain relief?

I have these and many other questions rushing around my head. I need to speak to my midwife and do a bit of research and see what it is that we want to do.

If you had a homebirth I'd love to know how it went, good or bad!

Thanks for reading,

Nicola Xx

  1. I was thinking about a home birth next time too, Ben isn't keen either but I had such bad aftercare in hospital which has really put me off! Id love to be in the comfort of my own home and like you, we have a hospital 2 minutes away if anything was to go wrong (touch wood it doesn't), we'd probably send Abbie to her grandparents for the night so I don't worry about waking her up too! I think I need to research it a bit more but the idea of being in my home already, with my own bed, own pillows and no cramped ward with babies crying and waking us up! Lol :) x

  2. Ever since I got the urge to push in bed with rio last time, I knew this time around I'd want a homebirth.. the only thing that is currently playing on my mind is that the hospital is a 30 min car journey away. I hated staying in hospital. Best of luck!! Xx

  3. Our friend had a home birth which went fantastically. Our main concerns and one of the reasons we opted for hospital was in case of an emergency and my wife having an uncomfortable drive to hospital.

Having said that with the hospital 2 mins away I think it is something we would consider :-)

  4. I would love to have a home birth next time but at my midwife appointment they said i wasn't allowed as last time didn't turn out good. Looks like i'll be having a hospital birth with the next too lol! If it's something you really want to do then i'd say go for it and like you said you're only round the corner :) xx
