Birth Story of Parker James

I loved writing Paige's labour and delivery story as I love that I can re read it and remember everything about those couple of days. I broke hers into part 1 and part 2 as it was a long 38 hours.

This time at just over 6 hours we will stick to just one part.

On Sunday June 22nd we went to my dads for dinner. I didn't eat very much so by
9pm I was pretty hungry. Paige was fast asleep in bed so mark asked me what I fancied, he said I could anything. Truth be told I really wanted a McDonald's. So off he went to the drive through. By 9:30pm we were sat on the sofa watching tv and eating McDonald's. I suddenly felt two small blobs of liquid. I panicked and told mark I needed to go to the toilet. Off I went to find my underwear wet. I put a pad on thinking that it was just watery discharge which can be perfectly normal during the last few weeks of pregnancy. I came back down stairs and finished my McDonald's.

During this time I was tweeting away and felt like labour was a million miles away.

By
11pm I was having what I thought were Braxton hicks. They were super irregular but a little painful. The pain then developed and was going down the front of my thighs which I though was pretty strange. I still didn't think it was labour so went to bed. By 11:30pm I was still awake and noticing that with every pain I felt that I leaked a little. I then had a bigger leak and thought I better phone the birth centre just to check what could be going on. The pains were still quite irregular but the midwife said that it sounded like my waters had broken. She said I could either wait it out at home until my contractions were more regular or I could come in for a check up and make sure it was my waters. I decided to pop in thinking they would send me home. We called my dad to come look watch Paige. During the 15-30 mins that it took him to get to us my contractions had stepped up a gear and were now coming every two minutes. We got to the birth centre around 12:30am. The midwife confirmed that it was my waters and was shocked at how regular and quick my contractions had come. She checked me and I was 4cm. We were having this baby soon!

The birth pool was filled up while I walked the corridors. The birth centre was very quiet so we pretty much had the run of it and the midwives. We chatted while I was in between contractions and I held onto mark and rocked through them while they were happening. The midwife kept offering me pain relief but I wanted to wait until I really felt like I needed. So found that breathing and rocking was really helping. The jumped in the pool and that helped with the pain too. I jumped out after a while and was on all fours leaning against a table. The pain stepped up a gear again and off back into the pool I went. I remember looking at the clock around 15:15am and saying how tired I was and how I couldn't manage anymore. The midwife took note and got her gloves on. Then a switch flipped in my head. I was suddenly wide awake and ready for action. My body was telling me to push. I couldn't help myself. It's the most amazing feeling to feel your body pushing without you trying. My contractions were again quite irregular at this point, just like with Paige.
With each contraction I pushed until I stopped one right in the middle. I apparently had decided that I didn't want that contraction and stopped it right in it's tracks. Probably not the best idea but I didn't care. The midwife just told me that it wasn't meant to be and that the next one we would go for it and push again. At 3:41am his head was born. I know this because we have photographic proof which I won't be sharing but I do treasure that picture. I think it's really gross but amazing at the same time! I felt a release in pressure with the pop of his head which was amazing. We sat there waiting for my next contraction knowing that in the next push he would be here. The midwife confirmed my suspicions that he didn't have much hair but said he looked a decent weight from the size of his head. The next contraction came and
at 3:43am Parker James was born. I reached between my legs and pulled him onto my chest. I couldn't believe he was here. We all sat there for a few minutes until mark asked if it was infact a boy. Haha. No one had thought to check so I had a quick peek! He was a boy!

After we cuddled in the birth pool, while waiting for my placenta and while mark made the all important phone calls to let everyone know that he was here. Mark cut the cord and I got out the pool wanting to deliver my placenta on the birthing stool. Mark got his first cuddles with his son while I delivered the placenta. The midwife explained each section of the placenta to me as I was very interested. She even pointed out the perfect hole where Parker was born from. That too is pretty gross but also amazing!

I was then checked to see if I need needed stitches. Thankfully I didn't as I just had a first degree tear. They were the thing I was least looking forward to after my bad experience with Paige.

And that was it. He was here.

I still can't believe he was 11 days early and weighed in at 6lb 14oz. His head was 34cm that same as Paige's and that's why the midwife thought he looked a decent size.

Our quick and perfect labour and delivery of our baby boy.

Thanks for reading,

Nicola Xx

Oh and I was also fascinated my placenta! It was gross but it housed my bambino for near enough 9 months so it's pretty awesome too. xx
