Back to School Essentials

With Paige starting reception I wanted to share some items that we have collected that are our back to school essentials. They range in items from we will use at home to items that will travel to school with her.

First up is the LeapStart. The LeapStart is an interactive learning system which is designed for nursery to  Year 1 pupils. Using the stylus, kids can tap any page to activate audio responses and play activities designed to keep them engaged. You can purchase separate learning books which each contain over 30 activities. From maths to global awareness, the LeapStart library supports core and life skills that complement school. It really is the perfect system to help children develop through school in a fun way.

Paige already loves writing and drawing, she is getting pretty good too. Reception is going to bring on her writing so much and I am so excited for her. She will also start getting homework so I think some basic stationery supplies are great to have a home. These sets from Bic are perfect. Check out @mybicpen on Twitter, they also run some great competitions from time to time!

You need a cute pencil case and other stationery supplies for school too. Smiggle have some lovely items. I love how bright, fun and colourful everything is. The scented items just add an extra little fun touch which is super cute. Paige is so excited to use these.

At Paige's school she is allowed to take a water bottle into her class room. I think this is such an amazing idea to keep children topped up with water and hydrated. This cute butterfly straw bottle from SkiphopThe BPA-free Zoo Straw Bottle has the protection of a flip-top lid to keep drinks safe. Dishwasher-safe and also comes with an extra straw. Very handy in case you lose the original or it gets damaged.

Next up is a book. Starting school can be a really big thing for children. I've spoken to Paige about it and she is a little nervous, which is completely understandable. I want to try ease her in as best as I can. One of the ways we are preparing her is reading books about starting school. Miffy at school is a lovely little book about Miffy on her first day. It goes through some different  things she does with her new teacher. It is such a sweet little book, Paige loves it!

Next up is more products for me to use at home. Stains can be so hard to remove from any clothing and I fear that Paige will indeed get very messy. Astonish have a wonderful range of cleaning products to help with everything. Perfect for any parent to keep on top of laundry and cleaning. Astonish’s Oxy Plus Stain Remover is a super concentrated, powerful stain removing powder that will help to remove tough stains and brighten school shirts. There’s also the Starch Spray to make ironing little one’s school clothes quicker and easier; a Stain Remover target spray that will penetrate deep into fibres to banish any reminders of your youngster’s day at school; a Fabric Refresher and a Lavender & Ylang Ylang Laundry Liquid.

Another product for me to use. Headlice are sort of a given when it comes to school, a bit like chicken pox. There's a really good chance that your child will catch them and I for one want to be prepared. Puressentiel Anti-Lice Lotion is just the product to have on hand. Powerful, yet gentle on scalp, hair and the environment. Products are 100% natural, insecticide-free and dermatologically tested. The range is also suitable for children aged 3+. Puressentiel products contain no dyes, preservatives or synthetic perfumes; they use nature’s natural bactericides, virucides, fungicides and biocides.

Health is really important when your child starts school. You can't have them off ill multiple times a month, obviously sometimes these things can't be helped but you can always give a little boost in the form of multivitamins. These Mr. Men and Little Miss vitamins are perfect. Soft chews in a yummy strawberry flavour. Paige thinks she is getting a little sweet everyday! They are available at Superdrug.

We all know that when children first start school they can get very tired, it takes a little while for them to get used to the school day and even after they do children are still always hungry. Take that hunger away using our two current favourite snacks. Whaoo chocolate filled crepes and Pulsin oat bars. Both super yummy and perfect as an after school snack.

I am both really nervous but really excited for Paige to start school. Its going to be such a big change for us all.

What are your essentials?
